Welcome to the Cricket section of the Winchmore Hill
website. This is the home for one of the most dedicated
- and friendliest - clubs in the Middlesex League and
other competitions.
After a very challenging 2009 season, WHCC is aiming to
make 2010 and the start of the new decade a strong
foundation for building year on year success. To help
achieve this, we are keen to welcome new members across
the board, and are looking to strengthen all our teams
from our First XI through to our Fifth XI. This also
stretches out to our colts where we have a strong
coaching and development policy to develop younger
players with all the characteristics that make cricket
so valuable – team ethos, strength of character and
mind, fitness and values for fair play within a
supportive and competitive environment.
If you want to play at a lovely ground, with great
practice and playing facilities – potentially the best
in North London and with a sociable group who play
competitive cricket, please get in touch as soon as
possible.
Our league rules do not permit us to field overseas
players who have played first class cricket, nor do they
permit us to play professionals. We are also limited to
five overseas players in our top three XIs on a
Saturday. Please e-mail enquiries to

Cricket Chairman's message
Quick
note from the chairman. Well the season has well and
truly kicked off now, with the wonderful chilly winds
blowing across the ground reminding us how enjoyable the
game is as long as you win - and you can ignore subzero
temperatures and can still run wearing 4 layers of
clothing. It would seem however, a good time to try and
“nip in the bud” (don’t you love my seasonal links) some
bad habits within the cricket section.
1.
CRYING OFF - if you
have to please contact your CAPTAIN DIRECTLY.
Ideally face to face or by PHONE. A text message
is NOT a suitable manner to inform your captain
you are unable to make it. This works both ways – we
ensure we get the correct facts as to why you cannot
make it and stop the rumours….. and we have a fighting
chance to get a replacement in time.
2.
SUBSCRIPTIONS – as you
should all be aware, these are NOW DUE. A big
THANKYOU to those that have – for those that have
NOT, can you please pay PROMPTLY – either by
cash, cheque or directly by card at the bar. Sorry to
say, but a “name and shame” policy will begin shortly
3.
NETS – I strongly
suggest that you make a BIG effort to make Nets
on Wednesday evening. As some of you will have seen –
David Alleyne is putting a considerable amount of effort
into the sessions – excellent drill sessions setup,
bowling machine set up etc. We all know it makes sense
to practice and earlier in the season the better
If we
can achieve these somewhat obvious points – I believe
the season will be better for all concerned. From
supporting the club finances early through to supporting
your captain and the team.
Again if you have any questions, then please reach out
to myself or any member of the committee so we can
respond.
Regards
Neil Innes
WHCC Cricket Section Chairman
Cricket Development Officer Appointed
 |
The club
is pleased announce the return of one
its most successful colts as Cricket
Development Officer (CDO) for 2010 and,
hopefully, beyond. David Alleyne joins
the WHCC ranks at the end of April.
Having left Nottinghamshire in 2007,
David has got married and now pursues a
club cricket career for Victorian
Premier Cricket team, Northcote. We are
delighted he and his family are
returning to the Hill for the summer. |
Having come up
through the WHCC Colts system, David was a
mainstay of the First Eleven throughout the
1990s and signed for Middlesex in 1999. We last
saw him play regularly in 2002 as he moved to
Nottinghamshire in 2003 where he probably
produced his best career performance against
Warwickshire in 2006, scoring his maiden
first-class fifty in the first innings and his
maiden hundred in the second.
He now returns to WHCC charged with driving
development of junior and senior sides and
judging by his early plans and ideas, he means
business, which is exactly what we want and
need.
