  From the touchline:

SAFE?
The Hill’s top division status was made virtually safe over the weekend following a 1 – 1 draw at Alleyn Old Boys. Actonians 1 – 0 defeat leaves them below the Hill with no matches left. However, should we lose by more than seven goals in our last fixture against Old Owens next week, Actonians will finish above us. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen!

The match at Alleyn’s was a scrappy affair with both teams desperate for points to maintain top flight football next season. Alleyn’s took the lead just before the interval when a glancing header from a right wing corner found the net. The Hill could have drawn level immediately afterwards when Ben Penfold fired over.

The second half saw the Hill push forward to get the leveller. The woodwork was rattled and there were several good chances before the observant assistant referee flagged for a foul on Godfrey Poku; penalty! Penfold made no mistake with the spot kick.

In the dying moments of the game the Hill could have won it. Poku’s shot was well saved by the keeper, but should it have been another spot kick for the Hill, as Poku was fouled when making his shot.

It was said at West Wickham early in the season, after we had lost 0 – 1 to a soft penalty kick, “What comes round goes round” – it doesn’t, and had Actonians won last Saturday we would be going into our last fixture next week with our first division status at risk due to a harsh decision at West Wickham in October.

It’s a funny old game, Saint…
