MARCH 2007
Hello All!

The clocks have sprung forward, the evenings are lighter and the summer tennis season is almost upon us. If you’ve been playing all winter, well done, although it has been quite mild. If you’ve had a rest then now is the time to dust down your racquet and come on court.

In this newsletter we’ll be saying welcome to Darren, our new coach; reminding everyone about social play; listing the events/ tournaments lined up for the next couple of months; asking for annual subscriptions; listing the new(ish) committee and asking you for help.

Welcome to Darren Plank
Darren is our new coach and has a lot of coaching experience at David Lloyd Bushey and Harrow Weald. He has already started working with the juniors on a Saturday morning and is looking to build up his client base. He is best reached by text/ phone on 07960071478.

Hopefully in the next newsletter we might have his picture so you All know what he looks like! The one bad thing about him is he is a Chelsea fan!!!!

Early Warning
The Ladies 1st team have a Middlesex Cup match on Saturday 28th April at home against Chelsea Harbour Club. The match will start at 1pm and take up three courts. Social play will start as soon as the match finishes (which may not be that long!!)

Social Play
This occurs on a Saturday from 2pm, on a Sunday from 10pm and on Wednesdays from 6pm.

A reminder about the etiquette:
The four people who have been waiting the longest are the four people who are next on a court. As a four you play one set only.

As a club we have always been very sociable and welcomed everyone. Rumours are circulating that winter tennis saw fixed fours and no mixing during social play. If true, that must not continue.

To help us make things fairer, we are hoping to acquire a pegboard where you will put your name on and when you get to the top of the list you choose 4 of the next 6 names. More on that when we get it!!

Plea for help
We need your help in boosting membership. Do you know of anyone who is thinking about joining? This is particularly true of juniors, of whom we don’t have enough. They are the future of the club. Please give Sue or Ian’s numbers if anyone you know is interested in joining and wants more information.

Subscriptions
Those of you have taken up the option of paying by Standing Order (many thanks) do not need to return the details again!

For the rest of us, please deal with this now and return your forms to Ian asap, and by the 1st of May at the latest. Please print any e mail addresses very carefully as obviously this is the most economic and quickest way of keeping in touch.

You will then get your coveted shoe tag (an exciting Spearmint green this year I understand!) to evidence you are a bona fide member (and hence identify anyone who isn’t!)

For Your Diary
Sunday 13 May Tournament & Wimbledon Draw
Note: You cannot be entered into the draw unless you have paid your annual subscription.
Friday 22 June Maria & Ruth's Surprise Event
Details to be released soon, then it won't be a surprise!
Friday 13 July Quiz Night
Les Williams will be staging another of his famous Quizzes. Who will be the star turn this time? I'm guessing it won't be Bobby Bonus or Superhero...
Saturday 21 July Finals Day
All day event, complete with burgers and Pimms

Best wishes,

Sue Murphy
Chairman
