Alex Holly Obituary

Alex Holly Obituary

Winchmore Hill Sports Club is sad to announce the recent passing of Alex Holly, a longstanding member of the club.

Alex first visited the club when Jan Kirkland was Chair of Hockey. He always said that the greeting he received was so friendly, that this was the club to join. He was soon on the Tennis Committee and organising arrangements for tennis finals, making sure spectators were well served with strawberries and cream.

He was often off to work on the oil rigs but was soon back to carry out work at the club. He knew exactly how all the plumbing worked and indeed how drains ran.

When Table Tennis was started again he became a member and then Chairman. In later years, when Harold Webb became chair, he was Management Representative for the section.

He was elected Ground Secretary and I was pleased to be one member who proposed that he be elected as a Vice President.

Alex was a great club member and was fun to be with. He was an Arsenal supporter and will be missed by many of us.

Our condolences are extended to his wife ,Pat and the family.

Harold Webb

Chairman Table Tennis
